THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH

David RossThe amazing rock needle known as the Old Man of Storr stands alone at the end of a long ridge, on the east coast of Skye, north of Portree. A footpath leads from a Forestry Commission parking area at the base of the hill, up to the Old Man. Intrepid climbers can scale the needle, though the ascent takes good mountaineering equipment. You can also climb past the Old Man to the top of the ridge and look down on the rock needle, for an amazing view of northern Skye. one thing I didn't realise is that there is also an Old Man of Stoer (notice the different spelling) on the mainland north of Lochinver.David Ross Photography signature
