THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH
The first golden light of day floods over Carney Fell, in the western Lake District. I was staying for the week near Duddon Bridge, in the south west of the Lake District. I got up before dawn and took the road that leads through Ulpha towards Eskdale. On top of the fells the light was beginning to break, so I pulld over to the side of the road and managed to catch this shot, facing east into the heart of the Lake District. The change in the light over the few minutes I spent photographing this sene was extraordinary. Elsewhere in this gallery is a photo taken just a few minutes later, and the golden light has been magically transformed into a ble/purple glow.
