THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH
Glenborrodale won't get into most tourist guides. This area is on the south side of the marvellous Ardnamurchan peninsula, facing south onto Loch Sunart, with views across to the Isle of Mull. There is a small nature reserve with trails through the ancient woodlands. On this occasion I was coming back from photographing the ruined castle at Mingary, heading for my rented cottage at Kentra, when I cam around a bend in the road and looked back west towards the setting sun. The view was so wonderful that I pulled into the nearest layby, hoping I was far enough out of the way not to create a problem for other drivers. Of course, this being Ardnamurchan, I reasoned, there won't be too many drivers to worry about, especially at this time of day. I parked and carried my camera and tripod down to the rocky shore. The light only lasted for 5 minutes before the magical glow faded and left behind a rather dull, overcast evening. But for those few minutes ... magic!
