THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH
This is one of a series of photos I took of sunrise at Camas Torsa picnic area, just outside the village of Salen, on Loch Sunart. I was staying at Kentra, at least a 15 minute drive away, but I got up before dawn to arrive here in time to see an astonishing sunrise. The entire sky was orange and red for at least 15 minutes of magic. But there was even more magic in store. After the sunrise faded I was simply standing there, breathing deeply, letting the experience sink in, when I heard a faint sound. I turn in time to see a pair of geese fly, wingtip to wingtip, up the loch, about a metre off the surface of the water. In the stillness of dawn the only sound was the gentle whoosh of their wings. Pure magic!
