THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH
One of the things I love most about the Highlands is the way the light constantly changes, and the way it can create such amazing drama. This is an example. There are numerous little waymarkers, milestones if you will, along the main road that runs along the Ross of Mull. This particular one is near Kinloch, at the eastern end of the Ross. I was simply driving by, watching the road, when the light changed suddenly, throwing everything into dark shadow, with the threat of imminent rain, while a shaft of golden sunlight cast a glow on a small patch of ground where this waymarker stood. I pulled my car over and managed to get several photos before the glow faded. This is perhaps the best of that series, and I love the contrast between the welcoming light on the milepost and the dark gloom beyond.
