THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH
Dun Dornaigil is a ruined broch, preserved by Historic Scotland, situated in superb isolation beside the River Strathmore, in Glen Hope, between Durness and Tongue. It does take some getting to, but then the same can be said of almost any place in Sutherland! I was fortunate in that the late afternoon was superb, with a warm, golden sunlight flooding the glen - it isn't always so welcoming! While I was photographing this scene an American couple pulled up in the rented car, having driven straight from the airport at Inverness - now that's a passion for ancient Scottish sites!
