THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH
I had been cooped up in my rented cottage on the shores of Loch Ewe all day, kept indoors by persistent rain and high winds. Eventually I couldn't stand being trapped any longer so I grabbed my camera and headed out along the road from Poolewe towards the hamlet of Cove. I had no expectations at all; I just couldn't stand to stay indoors any longer. But like it so often does in the Highlands, the sky cleared with amazing suddenness and I was presented with this lovely view over the loch. I was attracted by this old boat drawn up on the shore, now rotting away and filled with vegetation. The shape and colours made such a lovely contrast with the beauty of the loch beyond, and the swiftly clearing skies. You'd never have guessed that a few minutes before this scene was shrouded in rain and fog.
